Maitri

Maitri is a Sanskrit word which means universal friendship.  In Prakrit, it is Mitti and in Pali, Metta.

May no one commit evil.

May no one suffer.

May the entire world be liberated.

Such a sentiment is called Maitri.
— Yōgaśāstra by Hemachandra Acharya

Maitri Foundation is part of our journey. While it is ostensibly a giving journey, it is part of a spiritual journey.  We see it as a way to be the change as much as catalysing change.

“Your own Self-Realization is the greatest service you can render the world.”

― Ramana Maharshi

We believe that contribution is an opportunity for us and are thankful for it. We are also grateful to any potential partners for their work and for the difference they make.  We are grateful for the resources we have available to share.

We strive to be humble, for a lack of humility will certainly cloud a proper understanding of the potential projects, risking the imposition of ideas and demands which are inappropriate.  In addition, it will corrupt our own motives and journey.

We are inspired by the thoughts of Shrimad Rajchandra, a wise saint of the 19th century who guided Gandhiji. Shrimad wrote, early in his life:  “I suggest that the those who are noble and generous and those who are insightful should jointly make an effort to establish a great community or a society to achieve the above purposes.”
